Winter enjoyment away from the slopes

Switch off in the middle of the snowy mountain landscape

It's not just skiers, tobogganists and ski tourers who get their money's worth in Schladming. On the Planai and Hochwurzen you will find great winter hiking trails with panoramic views. Enjoy snow-covered forests, expansive views and the tranquillity of nature in the heart of Schladming-Dachstein - well-groomed, easily accessible and well signposted. Whether you're out and about with the family or simply want to get a breath of fresh mountain air, there's something for everyone here.

Hopsi winter hiking trail

Planai

The Planai main cable car takes you from Schladming directly to the mountain station - past the Schladminger Hütte, the path leads through the pedestrian tunnel to the Kasalm, where the Hopsi-Express awaits. At the Märchenwiesenhütte, a wooden PistenBully and a real Dachstein gondola invite you to play. This is where the approximately 2-kilometre circular route begins, which runs along the "Little China" area, past the Steirereck panorama point, over the Lärchkogelhütte and through the Hopsi Winterkinderland. Before returning on the "Fahr Long", you cross the colorful downhill area of the Croco Trophy. The way back is via the Hopsi-Express, the pedestrian tunnel and the gondola back down into the valley.

4-season path

Hochwurzen

The tour starts comfortably with a ride up the mountain on the Hochwurzen summit lift. From there, the winter hiking trail first leads past the Hochwurzenalm and along the toboggan run for a short distance. After about five minutes, the signposted path branches off to the right in the direction of the Hochwurzen II cable car. The well-groomed path runs through snow-covered woodland and repeatedly opens up to fantastic views - including of the Reiteralm. After around 2 hours of walking, you will reach the Winterer parking lot. If you have parked your car at the summit lift, you can either hike back or take the ski bus. Tip: Sports enthusiasts can of course also hike the trail uphill.

Exploring the winter on foot

For all those who want to explore the winter landscape of the Schladming-Dachstein region on foot, there is the practical winter hiking ticket. It allows you to use up to three cable cars a day - for example on the Planai or Hochwurzen - and move flexibly between the starting points with the Citybus and the ski & public buses. The ticket is available from 4 days and is perfect for anyone spending several days in Schladming. Available at the ticket offices of the participating cable cars.
