Hiking Planai & Hochwurzen

The Planai and Hochwurzen offer numerous marked hiking trails, ranging from easy panoramic circular walks to multi-day alpine tours. The Planai cable car or the Hochwurzen summit cable car take hikers directly to an altitude of over 1,800 metres above sea level. A particular highlight for families is Styria’s highest playground, Hopsiland. Two varied themed circular trails – also accessible with a pushchair – invite you to explore together.

Tipp for families

Hopsiland Planai

For families, we recommend one of the two themed circular trails in Hopsiland Planai. The circular trails, which are each around two kilometres long, feature numerous play stations and offer unique opportunities to experience nature.

Hopsiland is easily accessible via the Planai main cable car.

Before you set off, find out about the weather, route and level of difficulty. Even if the sky looks bright blue - the weather can change quickly in the mountains . It's best to start early and let someone know your route.

Good footwear, rain and sun protection, plenty of water, snacks and a map or GPS device belong in every rucksack. At the Bründl Sports store right by the valley station, you will find top advice and everything you need for your tour - from functional jackets to hiking poles.

Despite all the preparation, something can happen. That's why it's good to know: Schladming Mountain Rescue, with around 55 volunteer mountain rescuers, is ready for action around the clock - professionally, quickly and on a voluntary basis.
