Planai hiking tips: Alpine walk, world champion trail & nature experience

Planai Panorama Trail

Those who like to take it easy on their hiking holiday can walk the panoramic circular trail at the summit of the Planai. From the centre of Schladming you can take the gondola up to the Planai mountain station, where the path, which is suitable for pushchairs, begins and circles the summit of the Planai. Here you will also discover the "Place of Reflection", a walk-in wooden sculpture in the midst of breathtaking scenery.

During a walking time of approx. 40 minutes, you can experience the flora and fauna of Schladming's local mountain.

Planai World Championship Trail

This "Forest & Knowledge" hiking trail follows in the footsteps of the Alpine world champions along the major points of the Alpine Ski World Championship 2013.

Here, you will see the starting positions of the world's best ski stars from another perspective.

Along the way, you will find interesting details and background information on the sporting spectacle which has brought the Planai international fame.

The starting point of the tour is the Planai Mountain Station and is about the same as after a stunning day's skiing, you can stroll along the World Championship Trail, with a walking time of approx. 1 hour to the town center of Schladming.

Hiking at the Krahbergzinken, Planai

A hike to the summit of the Krahbergzinken is a particularly eventful tour. Starting from the Planai mountain station, an easily accessible gravel path leads directly to the summit, which can be reached after about 1 hour and 15 minutes. From there you have a fantastic view that - on fine days - stretches from Styria over Salzburg to Upper Austria.

Tip for all early birds: A hike to the Krahbergzinken in the morning is very worthwhile - here you can especially enjoy the beautiful sunrise.
